China’s Wang Yi brings investment promises to Namibia at start of Africa tour

Namibia is poised to attract multibillion-dollar investments in nuclear power, minerals processing, and police housing, following discussions during Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi’s recent visit. Wang, on a tour of Africa, expressed China's readiness to assist Namibia in utilizing its rich resources for developmental gains. This initiative comes as Namibia seeks to enhance its global standing in the green energy sector.

During his meeting with outgoing President Nangolo Mbumba in Swakopmund, Wang highlighted Namibia's unique resource advantages, particularly in uranium and critical minerals. Mbumba emphasized the country's ambition to invest in nuclear, wind, and solar energy, aiming to leverage these resources for peaceful nuclear energy development. As the world's third-largest uranium producer, Namibia's collaboration with China, particularly given the majority Chinese ownership of its top uranium mines, underscores the significance of this partnership for both nations' energy futures.
