‘That’s my life,’ says Japanese rickshaw puller at the end of 6,400km trek to South Africa

Yuji “Gump” Suzuki, a 34-year-old Japanese man, has completed an extraordinary journey of over 6,000 kilometers, pulling a rickshaw from Kenya to South Africa. His expedition, which began in Nairobi in July, spanned six months and traversed through Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, and Namibia before reaching Cape Town. Suzuki was visibly emotional upon arrival, expressing gratitude towards his supporters who provided encouragement throughout his remarkable quest.

This journey is part of Suzuki's larger lifestyle, as he has been traveling for nine years, seeking joy and inspiration from the experiences he gathers and the people he meets. His nickname, reminiscent of the fictional character Forrest Gump, reflects his philosophy of running for pleasure and sharing the energy he receives with others. This adventure not only tested his physical endurance but also highlighted the power of community and support in achieving seemingly insurmountable challenges.
