‘Do what’s right, don’t be greedy,’ Lunar New Year prophecy tells Hongkongers

Hong Kong's future looks promising if its citizens act responsibly and avoid greed, according to a rural chief's interpretation of a traditional fortune stick ritual. Heung Yee Kuk chairman Kenneth Lau Ip-keung shared this optimistic message after drawing a "neutral" fortune stick during the Lunar New Year celebrations. The stick's message emphasized the importance of integrity and cautioned against greed, suggesting that with the help of noble individuals, efforts would not go to waste.

Lau also highlighted the need for prudent fiscal management in light of the city's larger-than-expected budget deficit. He urged authorities to avoid tax hikes and manage spending wisely. This call for financial restraint aligns with the fortune's advice to act practically and with consideration, reinforcing the broader message of communal responsibility and the pursuit of positive actions for Hong Kong's prosperity.
