Baidu to offer Ernie Bot service for free as DeepSeek heats up China’s AI market

Baidu will make its Ernie Bot service free to use starting April 1st. This move aims to provide wider access to its AI models amid increasing competition from other AI innovators like DeepSeek. The free access will apply to both desktop and mobile versions of Ernie Bot, including its enhanced Deep Search function.

Baidu attributes this decision to "continued upgrades and inference cost reductions." The company's move comes as competition intensifies in China's AI market, with companies like DeepSeek and Alibaba Group Holding making significant advancements in AI technology. Baidu's CEO, Robin Li Yanhong, recently predicted exponential growth in AI applications by 2025, signaling the company's commitment to the AI sector.
