China potter crafts urn for late wife, plans reunion by blending ashes after he dies

A Chinese potter, Piao Shutang, has created a clay urn containing his late wife's ashes, with the intention of having his own remains placed within it after his death, symbolizing a final reunion. Piao's wife, Lang Aikun, passed away from cancer in 2023, ending a 30-year marriage defined by shared passion for pottery and traditional Chinese musical instruments.

Piao and Lang were both inheritors of the ancient craft of xun making, a traditional Chinese vessel dating back 7,000 years. Their relationship was described as "qin se he ming," a Chinese idiom for conjugal bliss, as they collaborated on pottery, researched ancient instruments, and taught children about xun. Piao shared a video on social media on February 5th, showcasing the urn he made to fulfill his promise to Lang.
