Hong Kong to enhance markets, gateway role in trade, officials pledge

Hong Kong aims to strengthen its financial markets and capitalize on emerging trade corridors to solidify its position as a gateway connecting China and the world. According to Christopher Hui Ching-yu, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Hong Kong offers significant investment opportunities, evidenced by the positive response to the New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme, which has already attracted HK$6.5 billion into the city's funds, equities, and debt assets.

Hui highlighted that Hong Kong's stock market surged 18% last year, with average trade turnover jumping 36%. Regulators and the Hong Kong stock exchange are actively working to enhance market competitiveness, including seeking public feedback on optimizing the IPO process. Furthermore, Hong Kong has been a leading center for yuan-denominated bond issuance, underscoring its importance in the debt market and its role in facilitating financial flows between China and the rest of the world.
