Chinese court tries Myanmar gang accused of scams, drugs, extortion and murder

The charges include telecoms fraud, murder, intentional injury, illegal detention, extortion, running a gambling den, organising prostitution, and drug trafficking, highlighting the extensive criminal activities of the group.
Prosecutors allege that since 2015, the Ming family leveraged their influence and armed forces to establish "industrial parks" in Kokang, Myanmar, colluding with financial backers to carry out their crimes. These operations resulted in the deaths of 14 Chinese citizens, injuries to six others, and billions of yuan lost to fraud. The gang is accused of using tactics like fake investment schemes, phishing scams, and extortion, and even killing captives who tried to escape in October 2023.
