Hong Kong director Jun Li’s pro-Palestine speech in Berlin sparks German probe

German police are investigating after Hong Kong director Jun Li Jun-shuo read a pro-Palestine speech at the Berlin International Film Festival. The speech, delivered at the premiere of his film *Queerpanorama*, was written by Iranian actor Erfan Shekarriz, who boycotted the festival. Authorities are looking into whether the statement involved the use of symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations.

The Hong Kong Immigration Department is also looking into the matter through diplomatic channels. Li is known for his 2021 film *Drifting*, which won best adapted screenplay at the Golden Horse Awards in Taiwan. The investigation raises questions about freedom of speech at international cultural events and the potential legal ramifications for those expressing controversial political views.
