Philippines removed from watchdog’s ‘dirty money’ list

The Philippines has been removed from the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) list of nations under increased monitoring for money laundering and terrorist financing, a move expected to boost remittances and foreign investment. The Anti-Money Laundering Council anticipates that this will lead to faster and cheaper cross-border transactions, reduced compliance hurdles, and greater financial transparency.

The FATF's decision acknowledges the Philippines' intensified efforts to combat illicit financial activities. This development is particularly significant as it should ease the process and reduce costs for overseas Filipino workers sending money home, a crucial component of the country's economy. Furthermore, it may attract more investment at a time when the Philippines faces global economic uncertainties and regional tensions.
