Hongkongers warned against Perrin Vermot raw milk cheese amid E coli concerns
Hong Kong's Centre for Food Safety has issued a recall notice for a specific batch of Morbier Jean Perrin 1/4 x 2 raw milk cheese imported from France, due to contamination with Shiga toxin-producing E coli bacteria. The affected cheese has a best-before date of March 15, and consumers are advised to avoid eating it.
The recall was initiated after the European Commission alerted authorities about the contamination. Local importer Chef's Garden had brought in 13.7kg of the cheese, distributing it to retailer Feather & Bone, who have since stopped sales, disposed of unsold products, and begun a product recall. The Centre for Food Safety warns that consuming food contaminated with Shiga toxin-producing E coli can lead to gastrointestinal infection, intestinal bleeding, and potentially serious complications like haemolytic uraemic syndrome, especially in young children and the elderly.
