Amazon Web Services unveils Ocelot quantum computing chip after Google, Microsoft

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled its first quantum-computing chip, named Ocelot, joining Google and Microsoft in the race to develop practical quantum computers. This marks a significant step for Amazon as it ventures into the realm of quantum hardware, potentially leading to breakthroughs in various fields.

The Ocelot chip, developed by a team at the California Institute of Technology, consists of two stacked silicon squares and utilizes oscillators to generate electric signals. While some experts believe useful quantum computers are still a decade away, AWS is confident in its ability to build a quantum computer, envisioning future applications in areas like chemistry and healthcare. Quantum computers leverage qubits, which can represent both one and zero simultaneously, enabling them to process information exponentially faster than traditional computers.
