Foxconn breaks ground on new headquarters in Zhengzhou as it expands into EVs and more

Foxconn has commenced construction of a global headquarters in Zhengzhou for its New Business Development Group, signaling a major expansion into electric vehicles (EVs), batteries, semiconductors, and robotics. The facility will integrate global technology and industry resources, aiming to inject new growth into the regional economy and high-end manufacturing.

This move represents a significant diversification strategy for Foxconn, also known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, which initially announced its plans to venture into these new sectors in 2019. The headquarters, situated on a 70,000 square metre site selected in 2023, involves a 1 billion yuan (US$137 million) investment, demonstrating Foxconn's commitment to expanding beyond its traditional role as an Apple contract manufacturer, most notably through its massive iPhone factory in Zhengzhou.
