China’s Tiantuo satellite breakthrough enables global cargo surveillance: PLA scientists

Chinese military scientists have successfully tested satellite technology capable of tracking hundreds of millions of shipping containers globally, marking a significant advancement in monitoring global supply chains. The technology, developed by researchers at the National University of Defence Technology (NUDT), utilizes the Tiantuo-5 satellite to gather real-time data from IoT sensors on cargo containers, including location, internal conditions, and tamper alerts.

This breakthrough is expected to bolster Beijing's ability to enforce export controls, particularly as China tightens restrictions on advanced technology exports. The satellite network could also become crucial in curbing smuggling and providing unprecedented insight into global trade flows. According to a Beijing-based logistics expert, this technology aims to enforce China's rules and challenge existing constraints on developing countries through a space-based technological revolution.
