After finding success with SU7 EV at home, Xiaomi sets its sights on overseas markets

Xiaomi plans to expand its electric vehicle (EV) sales to overseas markets starting in 2027. This move follows the successful launch of its first mass-produced car, the SU7, in China and aligns Xiaomi with other Chinese EV manufacturers like BYD and Geely Auto in their pursuit of global customers.

The company has begun assessing consumer demand and business prospects in overseas markets, particularly in Europe. Xiaomi's president, Lu Weibing, announced the 2027 target at the MWC Barcelona trade show, indicating that he will personally visit potential European markets following the event. Xiaomi's expansion is part of a broader trend of Chinese EV companies venturing abroad amid concerns about overcapacity in the domestic market. The SU7, which began sales in China in March 2024, has seen strong demand, with 135,000 deliveries reported between April and December after receiving over 248,000 orders.
