The 30-day cooling-off period, implemented in 2021 to curb rising divorce rates, allows either party to withdraw their divorce application. Jiang argues that the law imposes unnecessary costs on all divorcing couples based on rare cases of impulsive decisions. She also suggests the period could exacerbate conflicts, including violence, and facilitate asset transfer or debt fabrication, deterring young women from marrying.
