Mongolia still expects new Russia-China gas pipeline to go ahead
Mongolia maintains that the Power of Siberia 2 pipeline project, designed to transport Russian natural gas to China via Mongolia, is still expected to proceed. The pipeline, if completed, would divert 50 billion cubic metres of Russian natural gas annually from Europe to China. While the project was omitted from Mongolia's 2024-28 work program and updates from Chinese and Russian officials have been scarce, Mongolia's First Deputy Prime Minister Gantumur Luvsannyam insists that negotiations are ongoing and progressing, explaining its omission from the program due to the necessity of multilateral agreement.
