Crack down on corruption, deploy technology – Xi Jinping’s twin missions for China’s military

President Xi Jinping has urged military lawmakers to intensify the fight against corruption within the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and to leverage technology to enhance combat capabilities. Xi emphasized the importance of robust supervision and in-depth investigations into corruption during a meeting with National People’s Congress deputies from the PLA and armed police, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

This renewed call for anti-corruption efforts echoes Beijing's recent emphasis on "deepening political rectification" within the military, a theme highlighted in Premier Li Qiang's annual work report. The anti-corruption campaign has already led to the downfall of several high-ranking military officials, including former defense ministers Li Shangfu and Wei Fenghe, as well as Miao Hua, a former member of the Central Military Commission, demonstrating the breadth and depth of the ongoing effort to root out corruption in the armed forces and defense industry.
