Former Philippine leader Duterte in Hong Kong for event amid ICC probe
Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is attending a thanksgiving event in Hong Kong aimed at overseas Filipino workers. The event, titled “Pasasalamat kay PRRD with OFWS (Overseas Filipino Workers)”, is being held at Wan Chai’s Southorn Stadium. Hundreds of people queued up early in the morning to see the former president, and his daughter, the current Vice-President of the Philippines Sara Duterte, was also seen at the venue.
Duterte's appearance in Hong Kong comes as the International Criminal Court (ICC) investigates his controversial anti-drug campaign. The event is scheduled to run for most of the day, with promotional materials heavily featuring Duterte. Those without tickets were initially directed to a nearby football pitch, but were later asked to leave by police.
