Russian special forces use pipeline to surprise Ukrainian troops
Russian special forces reportedly infiltrated a major gas pipeline near Sudzha in Russia's Kursk region as part of an offensive to dislodge Ukrainian forces. Pro-Russian war bloggers claim the special forces traveled miles inside the pipeline to surprise Ukrainian soldiers from the rear.
The town of Sudzha is strategically important due to its gas transfer and measuring stations on a pipeline that previously transported Russian natural gas to Europe via Ukraine. According to Russia's Defence Ministry, its forces have also retaken the village of Lebedevka and seized Novenke in Ukraine's Sumy region. Last August, thousands of Ukrainian soldiers seized approximately 1,300 square kilometers of the Kursk region, purportedly to gain leverage in future negotiations and compel Russia to redeploy military resources from eastern Ukraine.
