Most see cost-cutting moves as inadequate in ‘mild’ Hong Kong budget: survey

A recent survey reveals that over half of Hong Kong residents are dissatisfied with the government's budget, with nearly 70% believing revenue-boosting measures are insufficient. The poll, conducted by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, also indicated that more than 60% of respondents felt the government hadn't done enough to cut spending.

The survey highlights public sentiment regarding specific budget proposals, such as the new limits on the HK$2 fare concession scheme, which drew mixed reactions. While about half supported the changes, a significant 45% opposed them. Dr. Victor Zheng Wan-tai from the university noted that public reaction to the budget was "mild," acknowledging the economic slowdown and potential negative impacts of drastic measures like fee hikes or civil servant pay cuts.
