Hamas to release American hostage, ready for second-phase ceasefire talks

Hamas has agreed to release an American-Israeli dual national, believed to be the last living American hostage in Gaza. This decision follows a proposal from mediators aimed at continuing negotiations for the second phase of a ceasefire deal. Hamas also stated they would release the bodies of four other dual nationality hostages.

The agreement comes after meetings between Hamas leaders and US hostage negotiator Adam Boehler, focusing on the release of Edan Alexander, a 21-year-old Israeli soldier from New Jersey. The United States, Qatar, and Egypt have been working to bridge the gap between Hamas and Israel to restart negotiations, facilitating the release of remaining hostages and the entry of aid into Gaza.
