Beijing hits out at ‘arrogant and malicious’ G7 criticisms over South China Sea and Taiwan

China has strongly condemned the Group of 7 (G7) nations, accusing them of "arrogance, prejudice, and malice" following criticisms of Beijing's actions in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait. The Chinese embassy in Canada, where the G7 foreign ministers' meeting was held, stated that the G7's statements were a blatant smear and a gross interference in China's internal affairs, lodging a formal protest with the Canadian government.

The G7's declaration on maritime security specifically accused China of "illicit, provocative, coercive, and dangerous" actions in the South China Sea and Taiwan Strait. This comes amid ongoing trade tensions between China, the United States, and other G7 members. Furthermore, there is speculation that Donald Trump's potential return to the US presidency and his stance on issues like the war in Ukraine could create opportunities for China to strengthen ties with European and Asian allies of the US.
