Peru fisherman, who survives 95 days at sea eating roaches, birds, turtles, returns home

Maximo Napa, a Peruvian fisherman, survived 95 days adrift in the Pacific Ocean after a fishing trip went awry, and is now returning home. Napa endured by eating roaches, birds, and sea turtles, and collecting rainwater, after his boat was thrown off course by stormy weather on December 7.

Napa had initially packed food for a two-week trip, but ended up lost at sea. His family launched a search, but Peruvian maritime patrols were unsuccessful. He was finally discovered by an Ecuadorian fishing patrol approximately 1,094 kilometers (680 miles) off the Ecuadorian coast in critical condition. Napa credited his survival to his determination to see his family again, including his two-month-old granddaughter, even enduring the last 15 days without food.
