Mainland China’s PLA ‘ready to fight’ for Taiwan at any time, commander warns

A top Chinese military commander has issued a strong warning, stating that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) is on high alert and prepared to act against any attempts at Taiwan independence. Lin Xiangyang, commander of the PLA's Eastern Theatre Command, emphasized the military's readiness to "fight at all times and able to fight at any time" during a symposium in Beijing commemorating the 20th anniversary of the Anti-Secession Law.

Lin's address, the first by a frontline PLA commander at such an event, comes amid rising tensions across the Taiwan Strait, particularly following the election of William Lai Ching-te, who Beijing views as a "dangerous separatist." The Anti-Secession Law provides the legal basis for Beijing to use "non-peaceful means" to achieve reunification with Taiwan under certain conditions. Lin vowed that the PLA would take "all necessary measures" to deter and punish Taiwan independence efforts and external forces creating tension, while also enhancing military capabilities to safeguard reunification.
