The Sha Tin Court on Monday ordered Cyrus Tse Tak-yin to perform 120 hours of unpaid community work after a probation officer commented the surgeon committed the crime out of stress.
The 47-year-old defendant pleaded guilty earlier this month to unlawful recording of intimate parts after he was caught red-handed at the Choh-Ming Li Basic Medical Sciences Building in CUHK’s Sha Tin campus on January 27, 2024.
A prosecution summary said Tse used his mobile phone to film a student’s underwear while giving a lecture that afternoon.
Another student who was attending class at an adjacent room witnessed the act through a glass wall and informed the victim of the incident.
The two students confronted Tse after class and found the upskirt video in his mobile phone, but the doctor refused to allow investigators to inspect his device after the case was reported to police.

Israel and Lebanon extend deadline for troop withdrawal to February 18, White House says

The White House said on Sunday that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend the deadline for Israeli troops to depart southern Lebanon until February 18, after Israel requested more time to withdraw beyond the 60-day deadline stipulated in a ceasefire agreement that halted the Israel-Hezbollah war in late November.
Israel has said it needs to stay longer because the Lebanese army has not deployed to all areas of southern Lebanon to ensure that Hezbollah does not reestablish its presence in the area. The Lebanese army has said it cannot deploy until Israeli forces withdraw.
The White House said in a statement that “the arrangement between Lebanon and Israel, monitored by the United States, will continue to be in effect until February 18, 2025”. It added that the respective governments “will also begin negotiations for the return of Lebanese prisoners captured after October 7, 2023”.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli or Lebanese governments. The Lebanese president’s office had put out a statement earlier on Sunday denying that there was an extension.
US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth, meanwhile, held an introductory call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, the Department of Defence said in a statement, adding that Hegseth had stressed that Washington is fully committed to ensuring Israel has the capabilities it needs to defend itself.
“Both leaders discussed the importance of advancing mutual security interests and priorities, especially in the face of persistent threats,” the statement read.

Hamas to release Israeli hostage Arbel Yehud, 2 others before Friday, Qatar says

Palestinian militant group Hamas will hand over female Israeli hostage Arbel Yehud and two other hostages before Friday, mediator Qatar said on Sunday.
Hamas said it had handed over to mediators the required information regarding the list of hostages to be released during the first phrase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.
In a statement, Qatar’s foreign ministry also said Israel will in return allow displaced Palestinians to return to northern Gaza starting on Monday morning.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed Israel will allow Palestinians to cross into northern Gaza.
Also on Sunday, Egypt rejected the forced displacement of Palestinians, after US President Donald Trump suggested a plan to “clean out” Gaza and move its population to Egypt and Jordan.
Cairo’s foreign ministry in a statement expressed Egypt’s “continued support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land”.
It “rejected any infringement on those inalienable rights, whether by settlement or annexation of land, or by the depopulation of that land of its people through displacement, encouraged transfer or the uprooting of Palestinians from their land, whether temporarily or long-term”.
